Through Nieuwe Gevers, I got invited to collaborate with the Straat Consulaat on a campaign for the opening of their new home in The Hague. This initiative aimed to raise awareness and foster community support for those facing homelessness.
With a rising number of individuals, particularly young people, experiencing homelessness or relying on temporary shelter. This campaign was an opportunity to shine a light on the awareness around the ‘face’ of homelessness: “Do you see who is homeless? Us neither. Take action!”
Working closely with the dedicated team, we implemented several initiatives to amplify the message:
Poster campaign: We partnered with photographer Eveline van Egdom to create a compelling visual campaign featuring faces who have experienced homelessness alongside those who have not. This powerful imagery aimed to humanize the issue and encourage empathy. Thanks to the Municipality of The Hague, our posters were displayed on Mupi’s throughout the city, reaching a broad audience and generating conversations about homelessness.
Press: In addition to the poster campaign, we crafted press releases to inform the public about the opening and the people who experience homelessness. The NOS featured an interview with Fatima: “Fatima had never thought she would become homeless: ‘It feels like everyone around you is also disappearing.'” (Original article: Fatima had nooit gedacht dat ze dakloos zou worden: ‘Lijkt alsof iedereen om je heen ook wegvalt’.”)
Social Media: I managed the social media channels Instagram & LinkedIn.
This campaign and the opening not only increased visibility but also fostered connections and created new ones.
Being part of this campaign was a rewarding experience. Many thanks to Iris Timmermans, Marlies Filbri, Pleun Usman, Sanne van Meggelen-Bakker, Joy Falkena, Berry Pfennigwerth, Mieke Hes, Jeroen Melchior, Jeroen van Es, Ron Staallekker, Roos Schrama and the whole team!
